In an intense and rain-hit clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Gujarat Titans edged past Mumbai Indians by three wickets under the DLS method in yesterday’s IPL 2025 fixture. This thrilling win helped GT climb to the top of the points table, level with RCB at 16 points but ahead on net run-rate and with a game in hand. Mumbai, who had entered the match riding a six-game winning streak, slipped from third to fourth, breaking their momentum at a crucial stage in the tournament.

Put into bat first, Mumbai struggled to build a commanding total as Gujarat’s bowlers maintained control from the start. MI managed to post 155/8, with Mohammed Siraj striking early and Sai Kishore picking up two crucial middle-order wickets. Despite some sloppy fielding — including three dropped catches during the powerplay — GT managed to pull things back. Will Jacks scored a solid half-century, and a 71-run partnership between him and Suryakumar Yadav gave MI hope before the innings lost steam.

Gujarat's chase saw early hiccups as Trent Boult removed Sai Sudharsan for a modest 5. However, Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill steadied the innings with a 72-run partnership. Rain halted play multiple times, first with GT at 107/2 in 14 overs. After resumption, Bumrah and Boult brought MI back into the game by dismissing key batters like Gill, Rutherford, and Shahrukh Khan, putting GT under pressure at 132/6.

A second rain delay led to a revised target of 147 from 19 overs. Needing 15 off the final over, Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee showcased nerves of steel. Tewatia struck a crucial boundary, followed by Coetzee launching a six off a no-ball. Though Coetzee was dismissed on the fifth delivery, Arshad Khan managed to steal a tense single on the last ball to complete the chase — a run that could’ve ended in a run-out on another day.

The match had everything — early wickets, dropped chances, rain drama, and a nail-biting finish. Gujarat Titans’ grit and depth under pressure gave them the edge in a tightly contested match, showcasing why they are serious contenders this season. With Mumbai stumbling despite their strong form, the IPL 2025 table remains wide open as the tournament enters a decisive phase.
